Kelly's Guest Suite

This space was originally a beach-themed room for guests to stay in. Straying away from a themed room was important, while still keeping the finishes bright and airy. We had the opportunity to reuse the wicker furniture and opted to spend more on the bedding and artwork.

This guest suite was looking a little dated…24 years, to be exact. I thought that was old enough to be revamped, and after a little convincing with my husband, we settled on a budget that would update the space without breaking the bank. One of the biggest ways to save money on a project like this is by keeping the furniture and paint color the same. That way I was able to splurge on artwork, new bedding, and accessories for the room.

Since the wall color was staying the same, I knew the bedding was the next big thing to purchase. I wanted to choose a color that picked up the paint in this room and the room next to it. The next room over was a study painted a deep crimson red color. I found the perfect comforter from Garnet Hill to bring in the reds and blues! Once the bedding arrived, I could see the direction the room was heading, and decided what other pieces needed to go in there. The bedding brought out warmer tones which we then picked up with lamps (from Target), plant stand (from World Market), picture frames (from Joss & Main), and framed art (also from Joss & Main). I’ve never been afraid of a little color and pattern, so I opted for some colorful pillows and a red chair from Target.

I carried these warmer tones into the connecting bathroom with art and curtains (from Joss & Main).
