When designing a typical outdoor garden there are many factors to consider:
- Soil
- Irrigation
- Climate of the region
- Plant and color preferences
- Timing of plants blooming
- Time you’re willing to commit to gardening
- Budget
What is a container garden?
Container gardening takes the stress away from the first two bullets! If you’re not familiar with container gardens, the concept is relatively simple: plants that grow in a container instead of in the ground. It is such an easy way to transform a small, empty outdoor space into a beautiful and fruitful garden. Container gardens are perfect for porches, decks, around a pool, or even on a dock. I like them because you can keep the pots close to your house for easy access to picking fresh herbs and because you can add a lot of character to the exterior of your house through pottery choices.
What do I plant?
I can never have too many fruits, veggies, flowers, or herbs growing at one time. Plants are typically seasonal, so there are specific time frames that each plant will produce. I would suggest making a list of things you really want and then Google them to find out what time is best to plant them, how often to water them, and where to put them so they receive the right amount of sunlight. It’s OK to start your container garden small and let it grow over time. Just start with one basil plant and see how you like it!
What do I put the plants in?
Picking pottery for your container garden can be so fun! It;s a great way to add some pizzazz to outdoor areas. You want to make sure the size of your plant isn’t too big for the pot you put it in, or the plant will start to die. Other than that…..choose the colors/textures you love! Pick your vibe below and see if it takes you to a pot you would buy.
Classic (can’t go wrong with these!)
